RUTHERFORDTON, N.C. – Women in Rutherford and surrounding counties are invited to once again live, love and laugh together during the RHI Legacy Foundation’s annual Women Together event. Women Together is scheduled for Saturday, February 20 from 9:30 a.m. until noon at the Performing Arts and Conference Center at Isothermal Community College.
The purpose of Women Together is to raise money for a new Cancer Patient Services program offered through RHI Legacy Foundation. Proceeds will be used for services such as mammograms for uninsured women and financial assistance for patients who experience financial crisis as a result of their treatment and recovery and to expand cancer programs for Rutherford County.
Jill Miracle, Executive Director for RHI Legacy Foundation, stated, “Every penny that we raise from Women Together stays here at home. Rutherford County has excellent medical services for cancer patients. However, existing screening and education cancer services are not adequate to respond to our area’s needs and there is no collaborative effort to meet financial needs for local patients. Our new Cancer Patient Services initiative fills that critical void.” The Foundation is forming partnerships and developing new cancer screening and prevention resources for residents of the county. Funds from Women Together will assist the Foundation in forming a stand-alone non-profit organization. The new organization will eventually be able seek grant funding for future operations and expansions.
The guest speaker for 2016 Women Together Is Anita Woodley, an award-winning journalist and playwright. She is also an inspirational keynote speaker and the founder President of Spark Inner-Action, a non-profit organization that promotes health education, emotional wellbeing, and stronger lifestyle choices through improvisational performances. She is a columnist for the Charlotte News & Observer Newspaper and an associate member of the Sisters Network Triangle: an affiliate chapter of the only African-American Women’s National Breast Cancer Survivorship Support Group.
The “Men for Mammos”, a group of physicians and other well-known gentlemen, will return again this year to serve, entertain and surprise our guests.
“Women Together has a theme of Living, Loving and Laughing,” Miracle continued. “Our attendees come because they know their gift may allow a cancer patient to “live” a fuller life. We know that our Men for Mammos will charm our ladies and handle the “loving” part of the day. Our guest speaker will make us “laugh” and inspire us to care for one another.”
Reservations for Women Together are $36. Honorary or memorial flowers will be displayed to celebrate friendships or to remember loved ones.
Reservations and flower orders may be made online at www.RHILegacyFoundation.com or by calling 828-202-4630.
RHI Legacy Foundation was formed in June, 2014 to administrate the grants process for RHI Legacy, Inc. and to continue fundraising efforts to support projects outside the grants arena. In addition to grant-making, the Foundation organizes special events and campaigns offering donors the opportunity to participate in health and wellness initiatives for the people Rutherford County. Both Legacy organizations work together to honor a long history of local health care by investing in projects that provide a significant and permanent health impact on Rutherford County.
